Oregon is one of the country's most agriculturally diverse states, producing more than 220 agricultural commodities, including some we don't eat, such as Christmas trees, nursery plants, and grass seed.

Oregon leads the nation in the production of hazelnuts, blackberries, raspberries, boysenberries, loganberries, and storage onions, and ranked second in the production of hops, peppermint, spearmint, prune plums, and green beans, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Cattle production is the top agricultural activity in the southeast region of the state and one of Oregon's largest agricultural industries. The Oregon dairy industry, holds fifth in production value ranking nationally, with milk as its leading product.

OREGON'S CENTURY FARMS AND RANCHES: HILLCREST ORCHARD

Four-Mule Team Hillcrest

The Oregon Century Farm & Ranch Program was established in 1958 to honor the state's rich agricultural heritage. To date, the program has recognized 1,117 families for 100 years of farming, and 22 have achieved 150 years.

Hillcrest Orchards won its Century award in 2008. Operated by the Parsons family since 1908, Hillcrest is one of the oldest continuously-owned family orchards in the Rogue River Valley, growing some of the region's finest fruitand produce.
