COVID-19 and the Mental Health of College Students: an Oral History Project

Description:
College students today have a lot to contend with in their journey as young adults. The college years are often a transitional time for students, and as such there is a vulnerability to mental health declines. Financial, academic, and social strain are some of the factors that can contribute to a student’s mental health. This oral history project aims to document how the pandemic has affected these factors, and subsequently the mental health of OSU undergraduates. Interviews were conducted with five participants, and their narratives were transcribed, edited, and supplemented by commentary. Students discussed different ways they managed anxiety, created new coping mechanisms, and navigated the “new normal” of the COVID-19 pandemic.
