Economic Development & Mitigation in Oregon Sage-Grouse Habitat

In 2015, the state of Oregon put into place plans and action to address declining populations of the Greater sage-grouse in southeastern Oregon, including policies to address impacts of human development in important sage-grouse habitat. The approach attempts to balance the need for sage-grouse conservation with the value of economic opportunities in rural communities by steering development away from the most valuable sage-grouse habitat in a transparent and predictable way. This document summarizes the policy and legal framework for development in sage-grouse habitat as outlined in the Oregon Sage-Grouse Action Plan, Oregon Administrative Rules, and Bureau of Land Management plans and policies.
