If you've been living in Deschutes County for more than a few years, you've undoubtedly witnessed the impacts of growth to our region -- some good, some not-so-good. Today, we're experiencing a pause in that rapid growth. This pause won't last forever. That is why now is a good time to plan and work towards what we envision for the land we love in the 10, 20, or 50 years ahead. And that's what the Deschutes County Greenprint is all about.
A Greenprint is a non-regulatory vision to help communities make informed decisions about land conservation, scenic values, and recreation priorities. Components include:
The Deschutes County Greenprint identifies key land and water conservation projects, some of which are already underway, like Skyline Forest, Miller's Landing, and Whychus Creek. Having a community-generated vision supports local efforts to secure funding from federal, state, and private sources. Each project becomes part of a comprehensive, coordinated effort, making it more competitive for outside dollars. And the Greenprint vision may be helpful in attracting additional local dollars for priority conservation efforts.
Further, The Trust for Public Land will seek endorsement from local and state governmental agencies, engaging them in this community-wide dialogue. The Greenprint is an opportunity to create awareness and support for how land conservation contributes to:
