Lizard (Bruce Newhouse)

Turtles, lizards and snakes make up the 30 reptile species found in Oregon, including two introduced species. There are an additional four species of sea turtles that can occur in Oregon's ocean waters and sometimes show up on our list of reptiles. Snakes and lizards occur throughout the state but achieve their greatest diversity in the drier parts of southeastern Oregon. The two native turtles, the western pond turtle and painted turtle, are both considered sensitive species in the state. Please see Dr. Titus' University of Oregon Web site for a checklist of amphibians and reptiles of Oregon.
