General Information

The town of Reedsport on the central Oregon Coast, hosts an educational and cultural meeting place for visitors of all ages, the Umpqua Discovery Center. The Center's mission is to preserve and showcase the Oregon "Tidewater Community". Interactive exhibits and programs describe the richness and complexity of Oregon's coastal heritage, and illustrate how land, water and people have shaped each other over time.

The Umpqua Discovery Center offers a wide variety of educational experiences for school groups. Classes can attend the Center on a field trip or the Discover Center can bring an educational program to your school site. Programs cover a wide variety of topics from shipwrecks, to tsunamis, to Oregon animals - there is something for every school and teacher! Center programs apply to Oregon curriculum standards in social studies, English language, science and the arts content areas. The Discovery Center can also provide materials for pre- and post-visit activities that round out a school group's educational experience.
