Amphibians in the Willamette Basin
Frogs, toads, newts and salamanders, Oregon's amphibians, appear to be declining throughout the state. Willamette Basin native salamanders are:
- Ensatina -- Ensatina eschscholtzii
- Long-toed Salamander -- Ambystoma macrodactylum
- Larch Mountain Salamander -- Plethodon larselli
- Dunn's Salamander -- Plethodon dunni
- Western Red-backed Salamander -- Plethodon vehiculum
- Rough-skinned Newt -- Taricha granulosa
- Pacific Giant Salamander -- Dicamptodon tenebrosus
- Columbia Torrent Salamander -- Rhyacotron kezeri
The frogs and toads from the basin are listed below.
- Red-legged Frog -- Rana aurora (ours is Rana aurora aurora, the northern red-legged frog)
- Foothill Yellow-legged Frog -- Rana boylii (only one population left in the basin)
- Cascades Frog -- Rana cascadae
- American Bullfrog -- Lithobates catesbeianus formerly Rana catesbeiana (not native, but an introduced pest)
- Columbia Spotted Frog -- Rana luteiventris (formerly R. pretiosa)
- Oregon Spotted Frog -- Rana pretiosa
- Tailed Frog -- Ascaphus truei
- Pacific Tree Frog -- Hyla regilla
- Western Toad -- Bufo boreas
